Description
Based on based on co-precipitation and filtration, this is a two-step process – add a ferric iron packet or tablet into a bucket of contaminated source water and mixes thoroughly. This water is then transferred to second bucket, filled one-third with sand. The second bucket has a hole in the bottom where the treated water is collected via a tube.

Rapid assessment showed that the technology was effective in reducing arsenic levels to less than 0.05 mg/L in case of 80 to 95% of the samples tested ( BAMWSP, DFID, Water Aid, 2001).

The technology has been approved by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the Bangladesh Arsenic Mitigation Water Supply Project (BAMWSP) for national-wide use.

Benefits
